He promises to Stephen worthy fruits of penitence, if he shall persevere.
Letter CDLIV.
Who can sufficiently admire the warmth of your charity? But since I know that you are anxious and it is not a right thing to do to allow you to remain longer than is needful in that anxiety, Stephen your son and mine, if he shall complete his course with conduct worthy of its beginning, if he shall attain to offer the tail of the sacrifice with equal devotion to that with which he has offered the head, I offer my testimony in his behalf that he will bring forth worthy fruits of penitence.
