ACCLIAPACCIO, Niccolò. – Cardinal, born in Sorrento, died in Rome on 3 April 1447. He was counsellor to Joanna II of Naples. On 17 September 1410 he was elected, by Gregory XII, Bishop of Tropea; on 24 December 1436, under Eugenius IV, he became Archbishop of Capua; and on 18 December 1439 Cardinal with the title of S. Marcello. He supported René of Anjou, and for this reason he was deprived for a time of the revenues of his church and sent into exile. He returned to Rome after the death of Eugenius IV. He was buried in St Peter’s.
