ADRIANENSES, ADRIANEN. — Born at Antwerp, joined the Jesuits in 1546, superior of the community at Louvain (1561–1580), where he died on 18 October 1580.
After 1567 he published in Flemish a series of treatises on the Our Father, Confession, the three evangelical counsels, etc., which are of original value, especially the Vénus Dinspreken des Heeren (Louvain 1570; Latin edition at Cologne 1601: De divinis inspirationibus). His Spiritual Mountain (Eenen gheestelijcken Bergh, Louvain 1568) already sketches a more synthetic exposition of the spiritual life. Many of his letters are published in the Monumenta Historica Societatis Iesu (Litt. quadrimestres, Epist. Mixtae).
