AGIULFO, king of the Lombards. — He was chosen as husband by Theodolinda, widow of King Authari, and was elected king of the Lombards at Milan in May 591. He marched against Romanus, Exarch of Ravenna, who had occupied some cities of Tuscany and even reached the siege of Rome (593); but he later concluded peace with Pope Gregory the Great, chiefly through the mediation of Theodolinda (599). He had his son Adaloald (v.) baptized at Easter 603, and it seems that he himself converted. He concluded peace treaties with the Franks, Huns, and Avars. He died in 615 or 616.
