ANCHELLE OF THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY. – A religious institute founded in Lerida, Spain, in 1862 by Speranza Gonzales y Puig for the re-education of fallen women and the Christian instruction of young girls. The founder’s brother provided substantial material assistance to the foundation, enabling it to develop and spread. The Holy See approved it in 1887. ANCHELLE OF MARY OR OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION. – An institute derived from that of the Daughters of the Immaculate Conception (q.V. above) and made sui juris in 1890 under the title of A. of Mary, also called “da Poremba,” a town in Silesia where, in 1866, Bojanowski sent some sisters to open a house. They dedicate themselves to the care of the sick in hospitals, the assistance of children in orphanages and day nurseries. Before the Second World War it numbered 200 houses with 1,500 religious.
