BETHSAIDA – Today et-Tell on the northern shore of the lake of Genesareth, east of the mouth of the Jordan.
From the «Itineraries» it appears that, as early as the 11th century, B. was identified on the eastern slope of the Mount of Olives, between the summit of the mountain and Bethania: there, in 1876, a block of stone came to light bearing paintings from the period of the Crusades (the she-ass being led to Jesus, people with palms, the resurrection of Lazarus) and the Latin inscription Bethphage. A few metres from there, the foundations of an apse and those of a small chapel were discovered in 1880.
