BEVEREGIUS, GUILLEMUS (BEVERIDGE WILLIAM). — Protestant theologian and English orientalist; b. at Banow (Leicestershire) in 1638, d. 5 March 1708. He belonged to a family of clergymen and himself took Holy Orders. In 1704 he was appointed Bishop of St. Asaph. Of his many writings, the following two works on canon law have been of interest: *Synodicon seu Pandectae conciliorum et apostolorum, ab ecclesia graeca receptorum* (2 vols., Oxford 1672), in which he upholds the thesis of the genuineness of the collection of the Canons of the Twelve Apostles, and *Codex canonum ecclesiae primitivae vindicatus ac illustratus* (London 1678, Amsterdam 1697).
