BLAST, ALBERT

BLAST, ALBERT. - Of the Order of Preachers, canonist. Born in Valencia on 3 Feb. 1870. He entered the Dominican Order at a young age and completed his studies, begun at Avila, at the Minerva in Rome. After teaching canon law in houses of the Order, he held various offices, including that of prior of the convent of Avila and definitor. Called to the chair of canon law, he taught at the "Angelicum" Athenaeum in Rome until 1942. Died at Avila on 2 May 1943. His principal work is the Commentarium textus CIC (6 vols., Rome 1923, and various subsequent editions), frequently consulted.
