BOIL (BOYL, BULL, BUGL), BERNARDO. - Born into the noble Aragonese family of the same name in the first half of the 15th century. Secretary to Ferdinand the Catholic, he left the court to lead an eremitic life at Monserrato, where he devoted himself to the study of the doctrine of Raymond Lull. Ordained a priest in 1481, and having met St. Francis of Paola, he joined the Minims, soon becoming the first vicar of the Congregation in Spain. He is mentioned in the bull of Alexander VI dated 25 June 1493. In the Columbus (v.) on his second voyage to America. After returning to his homeland after about a year, he entered the Benedictines; he was elected abbot of S. Michele di Cuscà, where he died in 1510.
