CASTRACANE DEGLI ANTELIMINELLI, FANCESCO

CASTRACANE DEGLI ANTELIMINELLI, FRANCESCO. - Priest and naturalist, b. at Fano on 19 July 1817, d. at Rome on 27 March 1899. Living at a time when some were beginning to confuse Christian consciences by spreading evolutionary theories, he found in the constancy of diatoms from the Eocene to our own day an argument for the fixity of species. His work Le diatomee e il trasformismo (On Diatoms and Transformism) treats of this subject (in Memorie della Pontificia Accademia dei Nuovi Lincei, 3 [1888], pp. 231-48).
