CAVAILLÉ-COLL, ARISTIDE. — Organ builder, born in Montpellier on 12 Feb. 1811, died in Paris on 13 Oct. 1899. Descended from a family already specialized in organ building, he brought notable improvements to this instrument, and many highly regarded organs came from his workshop in Paris.
He also wrote pamphlets on organ-building technique: *Etudes expérimentales sur les tuyaux d'orgues* (Paris 1849); *De l'orgue et de son architecte* (ibid. 1856); *Projet d'orgue monumentale pour la basilique de St-Pierre à Rome* (ibid. 1875).
