DENNICE. - Name of a Neapolitan family of musicians, active between the 16th and 17th centuries.
FABRIZIO, lutenist virtuoso, composer of music for his instrument and sacred music, including *Lamentationes a 5 vocibus*, *Agostoni* responsories, *antiphons*, *Benedictus* and *Miserere* (Milan 1593); his compositions are found in the collections of G. B. Besardo, *Thesaurus harmonicus*, and of M. Magnetta, *Nuova scelta di madrigali*; F. D. is also cited by V. Galilei in *Dialogo della musica antica e moderna* (Florence 1571), p. 138. Luigi, theorist and composer. His works include *Due dialoghi della musica... de’ quali l’uno tratta della theorica, et l’altro della pratica*. *Raccolta di diversi autori greci et latini* (Rome 1553); two “ariette” in the collection of R. Rodio da Bari (Naples 1577) and two verses of the *Miserere*, one for five voices and one for four, for the Vatican Chapel. Scripone, of the Padri dell’Ottaviano, virtuoso and keyboard player; he was in Rome in 1593 and died in Naples in 1633. He published five books of *Madrigali a 5 voci* (Naples 1591, 1596, 1598, 1602, 1607), one book of *Madrigali spirituali a 5* (ibid. 1629) and *Mondi a 5* (ibid. 1594). His compositions are also found in the collection of G. Annino and in others of the period.
