DIVITTO

DIVITTO. — In law, a division (d.) is the breaking up of a thing or an estate into several parts (usually to assign them to the various rightful claimants), or the subdivision of a territorial district into several others of the same kind (v. CIRCOSCRIZIONI ECCLESIASTICHE), or finally the establishment of two or more entities from one, which is thereby extinguished (in canon law the most notable example of this last case is found in the division of a benefice).
