The fruit and synthesis of forty years of archival research is the Histoire de l'Église d'Aoste, 100 vols., Aosta-St-Maurice 1901-15 (a detailed chronicle of the diocese from its origins to 1831). The treatment from the origins to the 9th century (part of vol. I) is scientifically the least sound, while the rest of the work, despite methodological flaws, is highly commendable.
