THE DUBLIN REVIEW. Quarterly English Catholic review. Founded in 1836 by Daniel O'Connel and Nicholas Wiseman, later cardinal, with the specific aim of countering the Edinburgh Review, a Calvinist organ bitterly hostile to Catholicism, and took its name from Dublin, the principal Catholic centre in Great Britain. It had famous contributors, including Cardinals Waughan and Manning, and among contemporary writers, Hilaire Belloc.
