SECRET ALMSGIVING OF HIS HOLINESS. - The secret almsgiving of His Holiness is a palatine prelate and the first among the ecclesiastical secret chamberlains. He holds an archiepiscopal title; he is always counted among the archbishops assisting the papal throne, and ordinarily is a canon of one of the four patriarchal basilicas, taking part in papal functions and ceremonies.
