ERICO (Heiricus) of Auxerre. - Benedictine scholar, born in 841, died in 876. At the age of seven he entered the monastery of St Germain in Auxerre and attended the schools of Ferrières, Laon, and Soissons. After his reform at Auxerre, he studied theology under Aimo and then became a master there.
Besides some historical works, collections of Excerpta from various classical authors and Glosses on logical writings are preserved from him. His principal work is the verse life of St Germain of Auxerre (ed. Acta Sanctorum Iulii, VII, pp. 221-255; PL 124, 1131-1208; MGH, Poetae, III, pp. 421-517).
