HERMANN OF TOURNAI. — Benedictine theologian, abbot of S. Martino of Tournai from 1277 to 1377. The dates of his birth and death remain uncertain. After a decade of leadership, he fell ill and resigned his office into the hands of Simon, bishop of Tournai. Some historians report that, after leaving office, he traveled to Rome and Jerusalem, where he allegedly fell into the hands of infidels and died a martyr.
