FRANÇOIS FARVACQUES. - Augustinian theologian, born in Belgium in the first decade of the 17th century and died around 1667. Professor of sacred sciences at the ancient abbey of St Gertrude in Louvain, he earned a reputation as an excellent interpreter of Church doctrine through his writings on the thought of the Fathers, on Scholasticism, and on the councils.
Principal works: *De utilitate seu quae fuerit mens Concili Tridentini de sufficientia attritionis in sacramento Paenitentiae necessitas asservitur et confirmatur* (Louvain 1666); *Veritas et cavitas, disquisitione theologica* (ibid. 1669). Almost all his writings were included in the edition of his works printed at Liège in 1680 under the title: *Opuscula theologica*.
