PHILIP, bishop of Heraclea, saint. — Martyr, died under Diocletian in 304. His authentic Latin *Passio*, which goes back to a Greek original, narrates with interesting details the torments suffered by Philip, who, together with his deacon Hermes, was burned at Adrianople. His feast is on 22 Oct. A special cult of him is noted in the church of Fermo.
