GIOVANNI of LIMOGES (Lennovicensis). — Cistercian theologian. Little is known about his life. A G. of L. was prior of Clairvaux in 1206–1207; sent to Bacony (or Zirc) in Hungary, he remained there as abbot from 1208 to 1218; he died in France around the year 1250. He has been identified with the Cistercian of the same name who appears in the series of masters at Paris, but P. Glorieux doubts this identification, placing G. of L.’s literary activity around 1270. An edition of his Opera omnia was prepared by C. Horvath (3 vols., Veszprém 1932).
