**ISIDORE** of Miletus. - Name of two architects. I. THE ELDER was active during the 6th century in Constantinople, together with Anthemius of Tralles; placed under his supervision, he is said to have participated in the construction of the church of Hagia Sophia. He is remembered above all as an outstanding technician and mathematician.
The activity of I. THE YOUNGER is more clearly defined and limited; he was the nephew of the former and also an architect active in Constantinople in the 6th century. His works include the reconstruction of the dome of Hagia Sophia, which collapsed following the earthquake of 558, the architecture of the church of the Holy Apostles, also in Constantinople, and many buildings at Zenobia on the Euphrates.
