PORDENONE, GIOVANNI ANTONIO SACCHI (de Lodesanis, de Sacchi), known as Il Pordenone. — Painter, born in Pordenone between 1483 and 1484, died in Ferrara on 12 January 1539. A complex figure, yet easily identifiable in the various phases of his activity, beginning with his training in the Venetian mainland environment linked to Montagna and dominated by Giovanni Francesco di Tolmezzo, which would always remain the foundation of his diverse experiences.
Indeed, the works prior to his journey, undertaken with Pellegrino da S. Daniele to Ferrara (1508), are connected to that environment, including the frescoed triptych in the parish church of Valeriano from 1506, while the first Giorgionesque influences appear only around 1511 in the *Madonna and Saints* from Collalto, now in the Gallerie di Venezia, becoming more pronounced in subsequent works such as the altarpieces of Susegana, Vallenoncello, and the cathedral of Pordenone (1515).
