ROGABERTI DE PERELADA, Juan Tomás. — Archbishop, 58th Master General of the Dominicans, born of a noble family in Perelada (Catalonia) c. 1624, died in Madrid on 13 June 1699.
He was professor of theology at the University of Valencia and provincial of Aragon in 1664. During his tenure as Master General he secured the beatification and canonization of various members of his Order, including St Rose of Lima. Archbishop of Valencia (1676), he served twice as viceroy there, and in 1695 became Inquisitor General of Spain.
He wrote: *Alimento espiritual* (Barcelona 1668); *Teologia mistica* (ibid. 1669); *De Rom. Pontif. auctoritate* (3 vols., Valencia 1691–94), a work against Gallicanism that was prohibited in France; *Biblioth. max. pontif.* (21 vols., Rome 1695–99), a collection of the most important writings of canonists and theologians adduced in support of the principles of papal infallibility and supremacy set forth in the preceding work.
