SALTILLO, Diocese of. – A city and diocese in Mexico, in the State of Coahuila.
It has an area of 155,000 sq. km. and a population of 710,000 inhabitants, of whom 683,500 are Catholic. The diocese comprises 30 parishes and a clergy of 38 secular priests and 31 regular clergy. It has one seminary, 8 male religious communities and 25 female ones (*Ann. Pont. 1952*, p. 348). The city was founded in the 16th century and was raised to the status of a diocese by Pope Leo XIII in 1891, as a suffragan of Monterrey.
