TEXTS AND STUDIES ON THE HISTORY OF EARLY CHRISTIAN LITERATURE. - A series of texts relating to the history of ancient Christian literature and philological and historical research concerning the same.
It was begun by Adolf von Harnack ([v.] together with O. von Gebhardt, who was succeeded by Ch. Schmidt) in Leipzig in 1882, reaching, by 1952, a total of 57 volumes, divided into 4 series. HARAN (v.) conceived this series of studies as both a philological and historical foundation upon which to build his Geschichte der altchristlichen Literatur bis Eusebius. The series of T. u. U. has greatly contributed to the publication of many ancient Christian texts, whether entirely unpublished or poorly edited.
