AHA (VOLGATA AHIAS; EBR. 'AHIJJAH, COME ACHIA, V.)

AHA (Vulgate Ahias; Heb. 'Ahijjah, like Achia, v.). — Prophet of Shiloh (hence called the Shilonite), the only one from the kingdom of Solomon and the time of the division of the tribes. He ROBOAM (v.) through a symbolic act (tearing his new cloak into twelve pieces and giving him ten) the Lord’s will to split the kingdom, entrusting him with ten tribes to govern, and leaving the descendants of Solomon, because of their sins, only one tribe (Judah with a large part of Benjamin; cf. 1 Kings 11:29-40). Already old and blind, to Jeroboam’s wife, who had come from Tirzah to consult him in Shiloh about their sick son Abijah (v.), he foretold the boy’s death and the destruction of their house on account of the king’s sins (1 Kings 14:1-18). In 2 Chronicles 9:29 mention is made of the “prophecy” (the Vulgate has only “books”) of A. the Shilonite as a written source concerning Solomon’s reign; its contents, however, are unknown.
