AHILE, Johann Rudolph. – Theologian and musician, b. 24 Dec. 1626 at Mühlhausen in Thuringia, d. there 9 July 1673. Among his many works are notable the motets, the sacred concertos (up to 20 voices, with instruments), the very numerous choral melodies, some of which are still alive in Protestant sacred song. He also wrote theoretical works, including: Compendium pro tonnellis; De progressionibus consonantiarum etc.
