ALLEANDRI, Ireneo. — Architect, b. at Sanseverino Marche in 1795, d. at Macerata in 1885. A pupil of the Roman Accademia di S. Luca, he elegantly varied the neoclassical forms he had learned from Stern and G. Camporesi. He was architect to the bishop of Osimo, Cardinal Benvenuti, and pontifical engineer for the province of Spoleto. He is known for his theatres (Spoleto, Sanseverino, Ascoli, etc.), for the town hall of Foligno, and above all for the monumental and daring Ponte dell’Ariccia. His most admired work is the Sferisterio of Macerata (1821). — See Pl. LX.
