AMBROSE of MILAN. - Capuchin theologian,
b. in Milan in 1535, d. 14 May 1615. Until the age of fifteen he was educated by the Augustinians, then entered the Capuchins. He was renowned as a lecturer in theology at the general houses of studies in the Marches, Bologna, and Tuscany, and served twice as provincial of Lombardy. A man of great piety and austerity, he was held in high esteem by Cardinal Federico Borromeo. Of his works there remain in manuscript: *Il Mistero dell’Ecce Homo*, and in print: *I Commentari eruditi ed utili sopra l’orazione domenicale*; he composed other small works now lost.
