WILLIAM OF AMIDA (or DE AMIDANIS), Guglielmo. - Augustinian friar of the 14th century, born in Cremona, died in Novara in 1355. He served as the Order’s Prior General (1326–42) and as Bishop of Novara (1342–55). He carried out extensive work for the benefit of his religious, promoting studies, enlarging convents (Cremona, Novara) and founding new ones (Pavia). Many dogmatic, exegetical, historical and oratorical works remain from him, including: *Reprobatio sex errorum sive de auctoritate apostolica*; *Expositiones super quattuor Evangelia*; *Commentaria super quattuor libros sententiarum*; etc.
