AMIDANO, GIULIO CESARE. — Painter, born in Parma in 1566, died there in 1630. In old guidebooks and dictionaries he is incorrectly called Pomponio A. He was a pupil of Pomponio Allegri and Girolamo Mazzola. Among his securely attributed works are the Martyrdom of St Peter (1612), executed for the church of Vigatto (Parma), and the Marriage of St Catherine (Parma, Holy Trinity of the Rossi, 1616). He is sometimes confused with Luigi A., a little-known painter. Ancient tradition holds that he was Schedone’s teacher.
