GIOVANNI PIVA
AMIDANO, Giulio Cesare. — Painter, born in Parma in 1566, died there in 1630. In old guides and dictionaries he is mistakenly called Pomponio A. He was a pupil of Pomponio Allegri and Girolamo Mazzola. Among his certain works are the Martyrdom of St. Peter (1612), executed for the church of Vigatto (Parma), and the Marriage of St. Catherine (Parma, Santa Trinità dei Rossi, 1616). He is sometimes confused with Luigi A., a little-known painter. Ancient tradition holds that he was the master of Schidone.
