ANDREA da SPLETO. - Born in Cascia around 1481. In his disorderly youth, he led a faction. He entered the Order of Friars Minor, then left it, but soon returned. To do penance, he went to Corsica to assist the plague-stricken. Afterward, with the permission of the Minister General and ecclesiastical authority, he set out for the missions in Africa. Arriving in Ceuta and then in Fez, he preached publicly before Jews and Muslims. He received the martyr’s crown on January 9, 1532.
