AUMATRE, PIERRE. — One of the last martyrs of Korea. Born on 18 April 1837 in Aizecq, he entered the Paris Foreign Missions Society in 1859, was ordained a priest in 1862, and departed that same year for Korea, where he carried out his ministry in the province of Kyeng-heul. When the persecution of 1866 broke out, to spare his Christians from further suffering, he presented himself and was taken to prison. After being tortured, he confessed his faith and was consequently condemned to death by beheading, which was carried out on 30 March 1866, together with Mgr. Daveluy (q.v.) and Fr. M. L. Huin. The acts of the apostolic trials were sent to Rome.
