BOSSOI (BOSSI), GIOVANNI ANGELO

BOSSOI (Bossi), Giovanni Angelo. — Milanese Barnabite, theologian and jurist, general of his Order, b. in Milan in 1590, d. in Rome on 27 Jan. 1665. He was a confidant of Ferdinand II, Grand Duke of Tuscany, and of Giuliano de’ Medici, Archbishop of Pisa; he distinguished himself for religious piety and learning. He published various works, very useful both for the ecclesiastical and civil courts, concerning marriage, written with clarity and subsequent brevity. He left: *De matrimonii contractu* (Venice 1643); *Moralia varia* (3 vols., Lyons 1649); the third part of these *Moralia varia*, namely the treatise *De conscientia scrupolosa*, printed separately, was placed on the Index (decree of 4 Dec. 1674), «donec corrigatur». St. Alphonsus often cites Bossi.
