BRIZIO (Bricio, Bricius, Bricius, Brissius), Saint. — Bishop of Tours from 397 to 444. A disciple of St. Martin, at first he was little responsive to the care of the Saint, but later he deserved to be called to succeed him. Driven from his diocese by accusations, the Council of Turin (398) fully vindicated him, so that he was soon able to return to his see, which he held with honor for 47 years. He was buried in the basilica he had built over the tomb of St. Martin. His feast is already recorded in the Martyrologium Hieronymianum on November 13.
