CALLINTERIE (KsXAuvrĭgıa). — Ancient Athenian festivals in honor of Athena, generally remembered together with the Plinterie (q.v.). Nothing has been handed down to us about the rites celebrated, but the name and the connection with the Plinterie indicate that they were rites of purification, during which perhaps the oil of the lamp of Athena Polias was renewed. It is uncertain when they were celebrated: according to some on the 19th of Thargelion (May), according to others after the 20th of this month.
