CECCARELLI, NADDO. - A Sienese painter of the mid-14th century, of whom only a few signed works survive. These include: a panel with a half-length Madonna and Child in the Cook Collection in Richmond, which bears the inscription on its frame adorned with eight medallions of saints: *«Naddus C. de Senis me Pinxit MCCCXLVII»*; an unframed small panel of the Risen Christ in the Lichtenstein Collection in Vienna; and a Madonna and Child in the Museum of Budapest.
Thanks to these three works, it has been possible to attribute to Ceccarelli with certainty, among other works, the five-panel polyptych with gables, no. 115 in the Pinacoteca of Siena; a Madonna in the Horne Museum in Florence; and a predella with medallions depicting the Pietà and various saints and coats of arms of the Hospital of S. Maria della Scala in the Platt Collection in Englewood, New Jersey. This body of work reveals him as a modest and graceful follower of Lippo Memmi, rather rigid in line but meticulous and refined in execution.
