CHAMAM (Hebrew Kimham, LXX Xaquàq). — Son of Barzellai (q.v.) of Gilead (2 Sam 19:37–40; 1 Kgs 2:7). After Absalom’s defeat he followed David to Jerusalem. In view of the distinguished services rendered by his father, David welcomed him kindly, showered benefits upon him, and commended him to Solomon.
Another CHAMAM (Hebrew Kimham, LXX Xaquàq, with many variants) occurs in Jer 41:17 (LXX 48:17), a locality, according to the Vulgate, near Bethlehem where the Jews who had decided to emigrate to Egypt after the murder of Gedaliah halted. It may, however, be the name of a person if one reads, with many manuscripts, Kimham instead of the Masoretic Kimham; in that case the son of Barzellai mentioned above would be named.
