CHARTER, JEAN. - Monk at Saint-Denis and last chronicler of the monastery, d. after 1470. He wrote, at the request of Charles VII, the history of the latter’s reign, which remains a notable source for knowledge of that period. It was published by Vallet de Viriville (3 vols., Paris 1858 sqq.).
