CHOBAR (err. Kébhár). - A river in the "land of the Chaldeans," on whose bank stood the locality called Tél-’Ábhíbh ("hill of the ears of grain"), where the first deportation of Jews was established (597 B.C.), among whom was also Ezekiel (Ez. 1, 1-3; 3, 15, etc.). It is confidently identified with the Naru kabaru ("great canal"), a navigable channel that crossed Nippur (modern Niffer) southeast of the city of Babylon.
