CHOCARNE, BERNARD. – Dominican, born in 1826, died in 1895. He was among the foremost benefactors of the Dominican restoration in France, founder and superior of various convents, and twice provincial during the turbulent period of political oppression.
La Vita intima e religiosa del p. Lacordaire (Paris 1866, Italian translation 1870) remains the classic biography of the great orator and the moving outpouring of a beloved disciple toward his teacher. Also his is the pamphlet Derniers moments du p. Lacordaire (Paris 1861).
