LITTLE DOMINICAN SISTERS OF THE CHILD JESUS. — Religious congregation founded at St-Nicolas-de-Beaune (diocese of Dijon, France) by the parish priest Vittore Chocarne and the pious lady of Bilc.
At the beginning it was a small group of women consecrated to works of charity, who in 1877 formed themselves into an association of Dominican Tertiaries. In 1879 the Association was established as a religious congregation of diocesan right, and in 1880 it was officially recognized as belonging to the Third Order of S. Domenico. In 1898 the mother house was transferred to Orléans. On 7 July 1908 came the decree of praise and the temporary approval of the Constitutions by the Holy See. Final approval dates from 1927.
The sisters, devoted to providing free assistance to poor people sick at home, number more than 200 in 6 houses.
