LITTLE SISTERS OF THE HOLY FAMILY. - Institute founded by Fr. Camillo Lefebvre, of the Congregation of the Holy Cross, who in 1874 had called to St. Joseph's College (Memramcook, Canada) some sisters of his Congregation for assistance.

When the number of postulants had grown, Fr. Lefebvre was authorized in 1880 by his superiors to give life to an autonomous religious congregation, with the cooperation of Mother Maria Leonia, who was its first superior. After the sisters had moved to the diocese of Sherbrooke on 5 October 1895, they were regularly approved by the bishop Msgr. Larocque on 26 January 1896. The Holy See approved them on 2 March 1937. Devoted to service in colleges and religious houses, the sisters currently number 1450, with 59 houses.
