LITTLE SISTERS OF JESUS OF THE THIRD ORDER OF SAINT FRANCIS. - L'Istituto ebbe origine verso il 1850 a St-Loup (diocesi di Lione).

It is the fruit of the Christian charity of some working women who, moved by compassion for poor orphan girls, began to take them in at the parental home of one or another of them. Feeling drawn toward the religious life, the young working women thought of founding a pious association whose purpose would be to help all needy, sick, and abnormal youth. They presented their plans to Cardinal De Bonald, Archbishop of Lyon, who approved the idea and gave them Canon Allibert as their spiritual director. On December 10, 1856, the first two sisters received the religious habit. On June 17, 1931, definitive approval of the Congregation was granted, and on June 8, 1942, that of the Constitutions. At present there are 193 sisters distributed among 13 houses.
