Pious Workers of the Immaculate Conception

PIE OPERAIE DELL'IMMACOLATA CONCEZIONE. — Founded in 1744 by Msgr. Fr. A. Marcucci, bishop of Montaldo Marche.

Its purpose is the instruction and civil and religious formation of children in nursery schools, and of girls in boarding schools, schools, and orphanages. On 6 December 1777, the Institute received from Pius VI the brief of commendation «as a monastery of oblates» under the title and habit of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. With the Congregation’s new legislation regarding simple vows, the monastery was transformed into a modern congregation, with the ancient constitutions revised in 1932. At present, the Institute has 130 sisters distributed among 20 houses.
