PIOUS WORKERS OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION. - Founded in 1744 by Msgr. Fr. A. Marcucci, bishop of Montaldo Marche.

The purpose is the instruction and the civil and religious formation of children in nursery schools, and of girls in colleges, schools, and orphanages. On Dec. 6, 1777, the Institute received from Pius VI the brief of praise "as a monastery of oblates" under the title and habit of the Immaculate Conception of the B. V. Mary. With the new jurisprudence of the Congregation for simple vows, the monastery changed into a modern Congregation, modifying its ancient constitutions in 1932. At present there are 130 sisters in the Institute, distributed among 20 houses.
