CHOBAR (Heb. Kēbhār). - River of the "land of the Chaldeans," on whose bank arose the place called Tēl-ʿĀbhibh ("hill of ears of grain"), where the first deportation of Hebrews was settled (597 B.C.), among whom was also Ezekiel (Ezek. 1:1-3; 3:15, etc.). It is confidently identified with the Naru kabaru ("great canal"), a navigable canal that passed through Nippur (present-day Niffer) to the southeast of the city of Babylon.
