CERESETO, GIOVANNI GIACINTO. — Biblical scholar, born in Genoa in 1840, died there on 28 December 1920. From 1875 to 1892 he taught Sacred Scripture and other subjects at the seminary in Chiavari. In 1892 he entered the Oratory in Genoa. In 1903 he was among the first appointed consultors of the Pontifical Biblical Commission (v.).
Of vast learning, he wrote extensively, though his works were more polemical and prolix than scientific; his approach was conservative, though with a somewhat rigorist tendency. His principal works include: *Istituzioni bibliche* (6 vols., Chiavari 1890–1900); *Stoppani e la cosmologia mosaica* (ibid. 1914).
