CRISTOFORO da VERUCCHIO. – Capuchin preacher and writer of the Bologna province, originally a Conventual Minor, born in Verucchio (Forlì), died c. 1620.
Through the effectiveness of his preaching, he promoted works of charity. He was a master of spiritual life, especially in meditation, in widely circulated writings: *Compendio di cento meditazioni sacre sopra tutta la vita et la passione si del Signore come della Madonna* [Compendium of One Hundred Sacred Meditations on the Entire Life and Passion of the Lord as well as of the Madonna], Venice 1592, which went through 14 Italian editions and two Latin ones (Venice 1596 and Cologne 1605); *Esercizj d’anima* [Exercises of the Soul], etc. (Venice 1596 and 1605), a manual of meditation topics and inner conduct; to local hagiography belongs the very rare *Vita del b. Giovanni Canonico della cattedrale di Rimini e del b. Roberto Malatesta, con altre sacre memorie di Verucchio... con la prima origine della amplissima casa Malatesta* [Life of the Blessed Giovanni Canonico of the Cathedral of Rimini and of the Blessed Roberto Malatesta, with Other Sacred Memories of Verucchio... with the First Origin of the Most Illustrious House of Malatesta] (Rimini 1610).
