CRISTOFORO, ANTIPAPA

CHRISTOPHER, Antipope. - A Roman, son of Leo, priest of the title of St. Damasus, he rose up against Leo V, and having seized him, threw him into prison in order to take his place in the pontifical see (August-September 903); he was able, however, to hold it little more than four months. All that remains of him is a bull confirming the privileges of the monastery of Corbie (Jaffé-Wattenbach, 3532).

In January 904 he was in turn driven out by Sergius III, who imprisoned and killed him together with Leo V, his predecessor.
